Thursday, June 15th is our first team practice for all swimmers (except Little Otters & Pre-Team.) This is a great opportunity to meet all the Otters on our team. Be there at 9:00am ready for some fun and don’t forget your flippers.

 

Little Otters and Pre-Team practices begin Monday, June 19 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Practices for these groups will be Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are not sure which group your child belongs in, the coaches will determine their placement on Monday.

 

If you are interested in helping to coach the Little Otters and Pre-Team and earn student service learning hours, see Coach Dyann to discuss the details. You must be age 11 and up, committed to helping the whole season, required to find a sub when you will not be able to make a practice, and notify the coordinator when you will not be there. Join us for our annual Family Spaghetti Dinner and Team Pep Rally Friday, June 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the Pavilion. The team will be providing drinks & bread, but we need everyone to sign up to bring pasta, salads & desserts (please remember to bring serving utensils labeled with your name). This is a very special evening of fun, and team spirit.  Everyone (Team, Pre-Team, Little Otters, parents, grandparents, siblings, etc.) is invited. After dinner we will be holding an “American Idol Otter” contest, so warm up those vocal chords! All are invited to sing for team recognition, but you’ll need to impress our judges “Simon”, “Paula” & “Randy”. You may bring your own music or we will have 2 CD’s to choose from. This is a great way to meet other ‘Otter’ families and get psyched for our first dual meet on Saturday. Helpers for set-up are welcome as early as 5:30 p.m. and clean-up would be greatly appreciated as well!!

 

Reminder, MCSL has free instructional clinics scheduled in June. These clinics focus on certification for officials.  Clinics are open to all interested persons, free of charge.  For a complete calendar listing of training dates and times, check out our website. Newly selected team swimsuits (G force/kelly green) can be purchased directly from Capitol Sport & Swim, 10558 Metropolitan Ave., Kensington, (301) 949-7366. Hours are MWF 10-5, TTH 10-7 and SAT 10-3.  The Speedo swimsuit style is called “G Force” 003 model.  If you know the suit size, you can place the order over the phone with a credit card.

 

Otter Team apparel will be sold at every HOME meet, and during some practice sessions for the first couple of weeks of the season. Child sized sweatshirts & flannel PJ bottoms are coming soon. Thank-you to all who signed up to volunteer this season. However, there are still a lot of jobs open, so if you didn’t get a chance to sign up at Registration, please sign up for jobs at one of the upcoming events. We especially need leaders for the Spirit and Special Events Committees.  Sign-up sheets will be posted on the Team Bulletin Board. The Green Team Notebook will also be available at each practice for sign up. Remember this is a totally volunteer, parent run swim club. We need everyone to contribute at the swim meets to ensure a fun and successful season. Each Team family is expected to sign up for at least 4 jobs (but preferably more) during the season. Our first "A" Meet is Saturday, June 17th at home against Manchester Farms. The swimmers names will be posted on the Bulletin Board by Thursday evening or no later than Friday morning at 9:00am for the ‘A’ meet.  Please identify and confirm your swimmers name and what events/strokes they are swimming (the most allowed is 3 events plus IM), and sign off with your initials.  If you know anyone that is on the list that will not be here Saturday contact Coach Dyann IMMEDIATELY! You can e-mail her at coachondeck@aol.com (preferable) or leave her a note. We cannot change line-ups after 10:30am Friday for Saturday morning meets. Remember, it is important to show up for the meet if you are in the line-up, failure to do so could cause us to swim with empty lanes and lose points in the meets when someone else could have the opportunity to swim. Swimmers should be at the Q.O. pool ready for warm-ups at 7:45am.

Also, please sign-up on the Otter bulletin board to bring items to sell at our “Otter Eatery” during the meet. We appreciate anything you can bring. Thanks!

 

Our first “B” Meet is Wednesday, June 21st at Manchester Farms. We do not "caravan" to afternoon meets, so please be at the Manchester Farms pool by 5:15pm for warm-ups. Use the MCSL Directions ( www.mcsl.org ) for directions to the pool. The swimmers names will be posted on the Bulletin Board by Tuesday evening. Please identify and confirm your swimmers name and what events/strokes they are swimming (the most allowed is 3 events plus IM), and sign off with your initials.  If your child is listed for an event they do not want to swim, or change to an event that they would like to swim, and are legal in that stroke, please contact Coach Dyann at practice or e-mail her at coachondeck@aol.com, and if possible we can change this line-up before the meet. We cannot change line-ups after 12:00 (noon) Wednesday for Wednesday night meets. If you have any questions, the “B” reps, Karen Schwartzman and Patti Reeping are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

 

New Families to Swim Team!! - The Board and Coaches encourage you to ask questions when procedures are new or strange or you just don’t understand what something means. Contact board members at meets, practices or by email or phone, listed at the end of this newsletter.

 

Sponsors - We are still looking for business sponsors. For $300 you’ll get great business exposure on our home meet “heat sheets”, recognition during the meets in the form of an announcement, and a spot on our web site. We’re also looking for someone to provide printing services for our heat sheets on both Saturday & Wednesday or any goods or services that would help support our team.
