SWIM WITH THE OTTERS THIS SUMMER!!!
The Quince Orchard Otters Swim Club, Inc. is an
independent organization founded in 1979 by members of the Quince Orchard Swim
& Tennis Club who wanted their children to have the opportunity to compete in
the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL).
The primary goal of the Otters Swim Club is to operate a community swim
team that develops good character through good sportsmanship and competitive
swimming during the summer months.
Another primary goal of the team is to have fun!
Parental Responsibilities
Swimming, especially summer swimming, is a
parent intensive sport. Without a
great amount of work by the parents of the Otter swimmers, there would not be
a Quince Orchard Otters Swim Club.
The parents of our swimmers run the team and are responsible for all expenses.
The dues and fees we must charge reflect the cost of paying for
coaches, buying equipment, and paying for all other swim team expenses,
including MCSL dues.
In order to make the summer swim team a safe,
fun-filled activity, we need all parents to be involved as much as
possible. For example, at a swim
meet, parents are needed to set up and take down equipment, time the events,
act as meet officials, sell programs, etc.
To become a certified MCSL meet official, parents must attend free
clinics sponsored by the MCSL.
(You do not have to attend a clinic to work as a timer.)
Parents who do not wish to officiate at meets can help by selling
refreshments at home meets. The
funds raised by the sale of refreshments help pay for our coaches and
equipment. Ideally, each family
should volunteer to help with at least
one special event (such as a Mini Meet for the 8 & unders or the Spaghetti
Dinner) in addition to signing up for at least
4 jobs at the Saturday morning and/or Wednesday night meets.
Remember, we are all doing this for the kids, and we are all
volunteers. The summer swim season
is only as good as we make it!
Social Activities
Aside from practice and meets, the Otters
schedule social events throughout the summer.
During the swim season, we schedule pancake breakfasts, ice cream
socials, Family Fun Nights, and we conclude the season with our Team Banquet
and world famous “slide show”.
These activities help our swimmers and families get to know each other, and
build team spirit.
Pre-Team and Little Otters
The goal of the Pre-Team program is to prepare
swimmers to participate at a meet once they acquire the necessary skills.
The Pre-Team members must be able to swim one length of the pool
without touching the bottom. The
Head Coach will decide when a swimmer is ready to participate in a meet.
The Little Otters program is designed to introduce new swimmers to
competitive swimming. The Little
Otters program can augment formal instruction and assist the children learn
the four basic competitive strokes.
2008 Registration
The team encourages all families to register in
person at the pool on the following dates:
